PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Over the past decade, MISSAB has been shaped by a dedicated line of presidents who have driven the organization’s mission of promoting minimally invasive spine surgery across Bharat (India). Their collective leadership has laid a strong foundation, embraced innovation, and empowered generations of spine surgeons.

It is indeed wonderful to see the kind of progress we have made in the area of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery over the last decade. India being a powerful hub for research and the place where clinical abundance meets technology, it is but natural there will be a strong focus on and the growth of this specialty here. Unfortunately, the space for the collation and the dissemination of information and knowledge in this area is not just as evolved.

MISSI is an initiative intended to bridge this gap. It has already begun to fulfill this promise by hosting two successful conference-chapters – MISSICON 2014 in Ahmedabad and MISSICON 2015 in Mumbai. The events saw leading spine specialists gathering together under one roof to exchange knowledge, share experiences, conduct workshops… in all, enrich and grow our resource bank for the benefit of humanity. MISSICON 2016 is already scheduled to be in Delhi.

On the whole, I see MISSI as perhaps the one and only spine-focused organisation with members and pioneers who have varied experience in the varied forms of minimal access spine surgery ranging from the cervical to the coccyx.

These very people will facilitate peer –to-peer the up-gradation of knowledge, honing of skills, sharing of experiences while making way for the discussion of cases at length. Unique benefits of membership indeed that will take each one of our members further in this area of expertise.

Late. Dr. Prof. Arvind Jayaswal

Founder & President

2014-1ya

As President, I remain deeply committed to sustaining and strengthening our shared mission: ensuring that every Indian — regardless of where they live — has access to state-of-the-art spine care with minimal morbidity and quicker recovery. I call upon all our members to continue contributing: by mentoring, teaching, innovating and advocating for quality spine care.
Looking forward, I envision MISSAB growing into a more robust network — setting higher standards of care, expanding outreach to underserved regions, driving research, and continuously raising awareness about the benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery across the country.
I thank each one of you — our surgeons, members, partners, and well-wishers — for your trust, dedication and hard work. Together, let us reaffirm our commitment to excellence, compassion, and service to our patients.

Dr. Karthik K. Kailash

Dr. AMIT JHALA

President MISSAB

2022-2024

Assuming leadership during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Deshpande guided MISSAB with vision and adaptability. Recognizing the need for continuous academic activity despite lockdowns, he launched virtual initiatives like the MISSAB Journal Club, which became a hub for academic exchange. His presidency saw MISSAB embrace digital learning while continuing to advocate for surgical excellence

Dr. RAJKUMAR DESHPANDE

President MISSAB

2018-2022

Dr. Rohidas brought a neurosurgical perspective to MISSAB’s leadership, fostering stronger interdisciplinary engagement. A proponent of full-endoscopic spine surgery, he emphasized skill enhancement through structured training. His term witnessed expansion in member engagement, with hands-on workshops and state-level meetings becoming more widespread. He also worked toward standardizing MISS techniques in India.

Dr. SHRINIVAS M. ROHIDAS

President MISSAB

2016-2018

India has made remarkable progress in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery over the last decade, emerging as a hub where clinical expertise meets advanced technology. However, a centralized platform for sharing knowledge in this field has been lacking. MISSI was created to bridge this gap and has already hosted two successful conferences-MISSICON 2014 in Ahmedabad and MISSICON 2015 in Mumbai-bringing leading spine surgeons together to share, learn, and collaborate. With MISSICON 2016 set for Delhi, MISSI stands as a unique, spine-focused organization uniting experts in minimal access surgery from cervical to coccyx. It offers members opportunities to upgrade skills, discuss complex cases, and grow professionally. I encourage orthopedic and neurosurgeons to join MISSI and help drive this initiative forward for personal and collective advancement
