MISSICON 2017

The annual conference of the Minimally Invasive Spine surgeons of India was held in Chennai from the 27th of Oct to the 29th of October at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. This was the fourth annual conference of the MISSI.

 

The conference consisted of live surgery on the list day 27th and didactic lectures and debates and discussions on the 28th and 29th.

 

There were nine live surgeries performed at the Sri Ramachandra University Medical center at Porur and they were relayed live to the Hyatt Regency hotel.
The surgeries were performed by some of the leaders of Endoscopic spine surgery and minimally Invasive spine surgery from across the world.

 

The International faculty were Prof Destendeau from France, Dr Tapan Daftari from USA,Prof Verapan Thailand, Dr Witahwin Thailand,Dr Aravind Kumar Singapore. The meeting also had the presence of all the leading luminaries of the Minimally Invasive Spine Society of India in full attendance. They were headed by Dr Rohidas President of the society,Dr Deshpande Vice President, Dr Amit Jhala secy, Dr Arvind Kulkarni joint Secy, Dr Arvind Jayaswal past president and host of others.

 

There were 5 endoscopic spine surgeries demonstrated viz.Destendeau technique, interlaminar endoscopic technique, transforaminal endoscopic discectomy.
There were 4 minimally invasive instrumented spine surgeries demonstrated viz.percutaneous pedicle screw fixation, navigated mis tlif, mis XLIF for the first time in India.

 

There were 154 delegates in all for the meeting.
The conference was inaugurated on the 28th by Prof P.V.Vijayaragavan the Vice Chancellor of the Sri Ramachandra University. The same day four of the senior most spine surgeons of Tamil Nadu Profs Sriram, Rangaswami,Sajan Hegde and Rajasekaran were felicitated for their services in developing spine surgery in the state.

 

The highlight of the conference was also 3 non academic lectures. These were delivered by Dr Jayaswal “You cant teach an old dog new tricks but not this one”, Dr Raghav Dutt “Mentoring the Young spine surgeon” and Dr Bharat Dave “Small is Big”

 

The conference was conducted by the Chennai Spine Society under the Chairmanship of Dr Karthik Kailash
